Honoring strength, resilience, and new beginnings

Overview

At Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, families in the NICU face some of life’s hardest challenges. To celebrate the moment when a child is ready to go home, the hospital introduced a powerful new tradition, the “Going Home Bell.” Families now ring this bell to mark the end of their NICU journey, symbolizing resilience, healing, and hope.

The Challenges

Rady wanted this tradition to feel deeply meaningful. The bell needed to be accompanied by signage that would capture the emotion of the moment, a design that reflected joy, strength, and light.

Our Solution

With the collaboration of our team at V Group, we created a radiant sun-shaped sign that surrounds the bell. The sign features a heartfelt poem written by NICU nurse Linda Black, offering words of encouragement for families at this milestone.

“This project wasn’t just about design, it was about creating something that carries emotional significance for every family who walks this path.”

A Personal Connection

The NICU holds a special place in the hearts of the V Group team. With Rady’s blessing, Ron Morabito and Allegra Morabito inscribed the bell in memory of their son Leo, ensuring his light continues to shine through this tradition.

This made the project not only a professional collaboration, but also a deeply personal act of remembrance and gratitude.

Impact

The Going Home Bell is now a permanent part of the Rady NICU experience. Each ring carries a story, a family’s victory, a child’s strength, and a new beginning.

We are honored to have played a role in bringing this tradition to life and proud to support the families and staff of Rady Children’s Hospital.
